David and Goliath

Jul 15, 2021

Situation

We were referred for a probate case by a solo attorney in a small town who was representing the beneficiary of a trust in trial. The opposing counsel was from a major metropolitan office of a large regional law firm.

Method

The judge supported our $3.9 million valuation of the trust and criticized the opposing expert for not following valuation standards in reaching his $350,000 value.

Result

Despite the other side’s effort to appeal, the State Court of Appeals deemed the lower court’s decision valid and this example of our work made national news in the valuation and litigation space.
